The Language of Logistics

An article entitled “The Value of Logistics”, published as part of the State of Logistics Survey, was featured in the September 2009 edition of Logistics News.  It reminded that the original purpose of logistics focused on product availability and consumer satisfaction and it proposes that logistics as a science has an important role to play as integrator of business functions. For value to be realized, logistics has to be understood and appreciated by people other than logicians.  This is often a challenge.

Economic Downturn - Threat or Opportunity for Distribution Outsourcing Best Practices - Logistic News April 2009

Best practice is defined as ‘a current, structured, proven and repeatable method for making a positive impact on desired operational results’. Unfortunately, in the changing economic circumstances, ‘current’ may no longer be ‘proven’.
